little scott things

On Thursday Ellison had his first non routine doctors visit.
Wednesday he was not nursing like himself and his left eye was very watery and crusty.  We got up early on Thursday and headed to his pediatrician’s office just to see what was up.  The doctor said that he has a blocked tear duct and with daily massage it should clear up.  As for the not eating, we think that his stomach was a little upset.  After a poopy diaper on Thursday he started acting a little better.
I have to return to work next week.  I am less than thrilled about it, but at least Ellison will be able to stay at home with Andre until school starts. Then he will start daycare.
I am glad that we get to do this in stages
(for my sanity)
Our second wedding anniversary is coming up in less than a month.
It has really snuck up on me this year…I need to start thinking about what I want to get Andre.
We are definitely not going on a big trip like we did last year.
Ellison is 11 weeks old and weighs 14.5 pounds!  He is a BIG boy!
My mom is coming to visit this weekend.  We are going shopping since my work pants don’t quite fit comfortably.  I still have 9 pounds to lose and I have a feeling that those 9 pounds are not going to come off easily.  Since starting Insanity I have lost a whopping 2 pounds
It is going to be HOT HOT HOT here in Florence this weekend.  I am already dreading the walk from my car to the mall on Saturday… 🙂
Seriously, I am so thankful to have central air condition!

I finally have baby tomatoes on my plants!!!  Hopefully it wont be too much longer until we get to eat some fresh tomatoes.

the best chicken salad you will ever eat

The other day I really wanted some chicken salad so I looked at recipe after recipe and could not find one that I really liked, so I made my own recipe.
I wrote our weekly grocery list, we packed up the car, and headed to the grocery store.
I picked up:
2 plain rotisserie chickens (4 roasted chicken breasts would work, though)
1 1/4 cups organic dried cranberries
1 cup walnuts
3-4 ribs of celery, small dice (should be about a cup)
1 teaspoon shallot, small dice (feel free to add more…I can’t have much because I am breast-feeding)
2 tablespoons fresh tarragon
3/4 cup or a little less of good mayonnaise
3 tablespoons white wine vinegar
1/2 teaspoon fresh ground pepper
3/4 teaspoon kosher salt
now heat your oven to 375 and roast your walnuts for 5-7 minutes
let them cook slightly and chop
combine the cubed chicken, roasted walnuts, dried cranberries, celery, shallot, tarragon, mayonnaise, vinegar, salt, and pepper.
stir to coat
you can add more mayonaise if you would like.
serve on crackers, english muffins, croissants, etc
and with some fruit salad
(thanks Whitney for the fruit salad combo)

sleep thing

(no he was not sleeping on tillman…if you were wondering)
my little boy does not really like to sleep
he thinks that it is overrated
he has a whole world to see
his mama and daddy on the other hand really like sleep
this is where we run into a problem
here is a glimpse of our night time routine on a good night
(at 11 weeks old)
feed at 8:30 bath at 9:00 and feed again at 9:30
swaddle and put him to sleep in his crib (this is usually 10-10:30)
wakes anywhere from 2AM-4AM
eats for about 30 minutes
(and I change his diaper if he has a poopy one…usually he does not poop over night…thankfully)
then reswaddle and back into the crib he goes
he then sleep until around 6AM
I bring him to bed with us and he eats off and on until around 7:30-8:00 (on a good morning)
some mornings he is ready to go at 6
a couple of nights a week or so ago he slept until 5AM but we haven’t seen that for a while
then there are these things called naps
Ellison is not a big fan
yesterday he slept for about 3 hours all day
the crazy thing is that he really didn’t fuss much either
I guess there are some babies that like to sleep and others that don’t
I guess we got one that doesn’t 🙂
oh well…before I know it he will be a teenager and will not want to get out of bed until noon

(this post is not me complaining, just a record…that I will probably look back on in a few months and laugh)

there have been quite a few milk comas

there are LOTS of blooms on my tomato plants…now just waiting on the tomatoes

tucker has played with his brother

Ellison has been sleeping better at night, so there are LOTS more smiles in the morning

even though we have been getting more sleep it still isnt like a full nights worth of sleep
so a cup of coffee is still needed

we fall in love with this little boy more and more everyday

we have gone on walks in the evening to get Ellison to nap

We even took a nap in the bed together

we have broken out the 3-6 month clothes and they fit perfectly

Life has really been whizzing by these past few weeks.  I have to return to work in 2 short weeks.
I am NOT ready…
I have been soaking in every moment with my little boy because I know I will never have an opportunity like this again.

Daddy’s Day

Happy first daddy’s day.
Ellison and I are so lucky to have you as his daddy.
You are so patient and kind with him.  Seeing you two interact makes my heart bust at the seams.
I hope that Ellison grows up to be just like you.
We love you to the moon and back!

You are the best daddy a girl could ask for.
You have always wanted me to pursue my dreams and my dream is to be just like you.
I hope that one day I can be as good of an engineer as you are.
I truly appreciate that I can call you anytime of day and you will willingly give me advise.
You are my role model
I love you!
Mr Scott,
Thank you for raising a wonderful man.  He is the best daddy that Ellison could ask for.
Andre really misses you today, and everyday.
I wish that you could have met your grandson in person but I know you are watching over him everyday.
We love you!

2 month check up

Ellison had his 2 month doctors appointment yesterday.
The first thing they did was to weigh him and he weighs 13 pounds 6.5 ounces…75-90% percentile.
Then they measured his head size and length…his watermelon is 16.5 in around and he is 24.5 in long (both 90%)!  He definitely has his daddy’s head.
He is a BIG boy!!!
Then the doctor checked him out and everything looks and sounds great.  He reassured us that him waking every 3-4 hours at night is totally normal.  He also gave us some advise on getting Ellison to take a bottle.  We will be starting operation “bottle” next week.
Then it was time for the dreaded shots.  He got 3 shots…the PCV13, a booster Hepatitis B, the DTap, Polio, and Hib vaccine.  He also got the oral Rotavirus vaccine.  Of course he cried, but I nursed him right after and he calmed down immediately.  He got the oral vaccine first and he was flirting with the nurse then entire time…I think we are going to have our hands full with him 🙂

After we got home yesterday he had 2 really bad crying spells.  One at 2 and another at 4…I nursed him to sleep around 5 and he slept until 8.  After we woke up at 8 and nursed he was Happy Ellison again.  Last night wasn’t great but wasn’t as bad as I expected.  He went to sleep at 10 then woke to eat at 1, 3, and 5.  Then we got up for the morning at 7:30.

I am glad that we don’t have to do the whole shot thing again until he is 4 months old.  He will be older and probably handle it better.

Ellison…2 months

Happy 2 month birthday, Ellison!!!

birth: 20.5 in
now: 24.5 in (90-95%)

birth: 8lbs 15 oz
now: 13 lbs 6.5 oz (75-90%)

trying to hold your head up like a big boy

we have had some rough nights but some good nights too
on a good night you have your last feeding at 9PM and are asleep in your crib by 10PM
you usually sleep until around 2AM eat and go back to sleep fairly easily
then wake up around 5:30AM -6:00AM to eat again
somedays I can get you back to sleep and if i do then you will sleep until around 7 or 7:30AM
I do not see you sleeping through the night anytime soon….just keeping it real over here
mamas out there that have babies that sleep consider yourself lucky because not all babies do that!

your crying has gotten MUCH better this past month
I have gotten you on a schedule where you eat at 6AM, 9AM, noon, 3PM, 6PM, and 9PM and that has seemed to really help
the only time you cry is….
after bath time, if you are REALLY hungry, when you pass gas, and if you are tired

riding in the car….you really hate this
(you scream the entire time)
getting out of the bath
being tired
being held by people your don’t know

being around your mama
playing on your playmat
the swing
Your second month of life was much better than the first.  I have really learned how to be your mama.  It definitely took sometime for me to learn what you like and don’t like.  We make a pretty good team now.  You are eating great and getting bigger everyday.  You are so charming and smart…and your daddy and I are so lucky to have you as our son.
We love you so much and everyday our love grows (if that is even possible…because we already love you so much)
We could not imagine our lives without you in it…you make our lives so much richer.
your mama and daddy

10 little Scott things…

1. We started Insanity last week and I was in desperate need of a good pair of workout shoes.  I usually workout barefooted so I decided to go with the Bikila vibram five fingers.
So far I have really liked them.  I will not be using them as running shoes as they are intended.  I overpronate so I have to run in orthotics.  I had some really bad foot problems while I was training for my first half marathon when I was in college.  I went to countless hours of physical therapy and finally they figured out that orthotics should fix the problem and they did…so I am not willing to mess that back up by running in these shoes.  They are great workout shoes though!
2. Ellison has discovered the wonderfulness that is Sophie the giraffe…
3. We take little Ellison to the doctor tomorrow for his 2 month check up and the dreaded shots.  I am not looking forward to those things, but I am anxious to see how much this little guy weighs.  My guess is around 13.5 pounds!
I really hope that the shots do not make him feel too bad!
4. Over the past week Ellison has learned to laugh.  The only way I can get him to do it is to act like I am sneezing…so be prepared for that obnoxious sound on the video
5. My mom took the doggies back to Chester with her yesterday.  They are going to have so much fun at “camp”…running, swimming, and playing.  Tucker also is getting his levels checked while he is there since he is on an additional medication for his epilepsy.
6. Dunkin donuts french vanilla coffee with a little soy milk is the best morning (with a baby that wakes up multiple times at night) pick me up
7. by the way my instagram handle is lifeofascott
you can follow me “here
I do go a little overboard posting pictures of the cuteness that is in our house (aka Ellison)
but a mama can’t help it 🙂
8. My mom and I got Ellison some shirts yesterday that we knew Andre would love…
I personally think that they are terrible but Andre just loves them and I know Ellison will too 🙂
and by the way the superman shirt does have a cape on the back (that is a little cool)
9. I finally sent out Ellison’s birth announcements last week
so I can share them now…

I ordered them from Tiny Prints
10. I am working on Ellison’s 2 month post….it should be up tomorrow!!!

who does he look like?

Does Ellison look more like me or more like Andre?
When he was born I thought he looked just like Andre, but the older he gets the more I see me in his face
What are your thoughts?

and now Ellison

A day in my life….

with an 8 week old little boy named Ellison…
I did a post similar to this one back in January when I was pregnant
and boy have things changed around here since then.
Now our days look a little like this…
6AM wake to my little boy squirming looking for his milk source
6:00-6:30AM feed that little hungry boy while still sitting in the bed
6:30-9:00AM change E’s diaper and clothes
try to get him to take a short nap (in the Ergo carrier) while I eat my breakfast
9:00-9:30AM eat again (my boy LOVES to eat)
9:30-10:15AM play on the activity mat and some tummy time
10:15-11:00AM put E in his swing and pray he falls asleep (sometimes this happens and sometimes it doesn’t)
if he falls asleep then I do my workout
11:00-noon try to get E to nap a little more in his Ergo while I do things around the house or if he is still napping in his swing then I will get a shower
noon-12:30 its eating time again
12:30-1:00 play time…we will either go outside or play on the floor in the living room
1:00-3:00 I eat lunch then it depends on the day…I TRY to get Ellison to nap (the only way that will happen is if he is in the Ergo) or go on a stroll around the neighborhood
3:00-3:30 eating time!
3:30-4:00 more playtime
4:00-6:00 Ellison goes in the Ergo or swing and I try to start dinner
he normally does not nap the entire 2 hours
6:00-6:30 Ellison eats his dinner
6:30-7:00 more play/alert time
7:00-8:15 cat nap time (again in the Ergo or swing) and we eat our dinner
8:15-8:30 I let Ellison eat a little so he won’t be so fussy after his bath
8:30-9:00 BATH TIME…Ellison LOVES taking a bath
but he does not LOVES being taken out and dressed in his PJs
9:00-9:30 more eating…this time I am sitting in the bed
9:30-10:00 swaddle the little buddy and sway, walk, bounce (do what ever is necessary) to get him to sleep
10:00 put him in his crib (in our room) and hope he stays asleep
(if he doesn’t then I repeat the swaying, bouncing, rocking routine)
he will usually sleep until around midnight
midnight-12:30 I will feed him again
usually after this he stays in our bed
he will sleep until about 2 and eat again
then eat again at 4
then the day starts over
needless to say our nights need some improving and I am sleep deprived
but this is what Ellison likes to do right now  🙂
Hopefully one day he will sleep a little longer at night and I will feel more rested
